The IACIS Annual Conference Overview

The IACIS Annual Conference gives professors and other Information Systems professionals the opportunity to meet and discuss timely issues, and to participate in the presentation and discussion of research, applications and other technology related topics. The Conference also provides a forum for individuals from diverse geographical locations and varied working and teaching environments to come together and share information on technology education and other important topics.

Benefits of Attending the Conference

Networking. The annual Conference provides attendees with the opportunity to get acquainted with the IACIS Board of Directors, renew existing relationships, and make new friends. Those attending are encouraged to share ideas and research, both informally and formally, and to network and make new alliances for future research collaboration. Membership. Conference registration includes a one year membership as a part of the conference registration fee. Membership is not included with a Guest Registration. Guest registration is available, and registered guests are invited to participate in all Conference activities, including:

  • All scheduled meals
  • All continental breakfasts
  • All refreshment breaks
  • Fun Night

Membership Benefits. Membership benefits include receiving online access to Issues in Information Systems (IIS), a serial publication which includes Conference papers judged suitable for publication, and online access to the Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), published four times a year. Members also have access to benefits provided by our Publisher, Taylor & Frances, including tools used in preparing manuscripts and discounted subscriptions to other T&F publications. Invite your friends, IACIS membership is available anytime of the year, and does not require Conference Registration.

Publishing Opportunities Built In. Submitted research papers for the Conference are double blind refereed. Papers accepted for presentation at the Conference are reviewed, and those selected are published in Issues in Information Systems, an IACIS serial publication. Other submissions, such as papers, abstracts, and panels which are accepted for presentation are published in the Conference Proceedings.

Interesting and Fun Conference Locations. The venue for the annual Conference changes from year to year, with an occasional Conference site outside the continental United States. We try to pick locations that are fun, interesting and family friendly for those wishing to bring family members or guests. Recent Conference locations include Clearwater Beach, Florida, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nashville, Tennessee. The Conference is scheduled for the first or second week of October, depending upon hotel and meeting space availability. This early fall timing assures those attending that the weather will be mild enough to explore the area should they wish to do so.

A Week of Learning, Networking & Fun. The Conference begins with a reception and registration on Wednesday evening, providing an opportunity to meet in a casual setting with others attending the Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships and create new ones. It is also an opportunity to meet the IACIS Officers and enjoy a social evening.

  • Each morning begins with a continental breakfast, and the registration desk is open every day from 8:00 until 5:00.
  • Thursday morning the Conference opens with a general information session, and on occasion a keynote speaker. The program then breaks into research tracks with paper presentations and panel discussions. There will be ample opportunity for networking throughout the day. Thursday lunch is generally provided.
  • Thursday evening is set aside for "Fun Night," a social event that is in keeping with the Conference location. In both Clearwater Beach and Puerto Rico we had beach parties with dinner and music, in Nashville we had an early dinner and went to the Grand Ole Opry for a night of country music. Fun night is always the social highlight of the Conference.
  • Friday morning is taken up with research and panel presentations.
  • We hold our annual business luncheon meeting on Friday at noon, with officers giving brief reports on their activities for the year.
  • After the business meeting we distribute awards, including Best Papers at the Conference, Ben Bauman Award for Excellence and Computer Educator of the Year. Further details about the various awards can be found elsewhere on our web site.
  • After the meeting and awards, paper presentations resume. Friday evening is open to explore the local area or meet with friends.
  • Saturday is generally a travel day, although in recent years we have seen a significant number of Conference attendees staying over until Sunday. Saturday morning has a full schedule of research and panel presentations, followed by a wrap-up session to review Conference activities. Door prizes are offered at the wrap-up session, and we encourage everyone to attend. The conference concludes about noon on Saturday.
Invitation to Attend from IACIS Board

The IACIS Board wants all those attending the Conference to feel their time was well spent, to share knowledge and insights with others, to find others to collaborate with, to learn new concepts, techniques and to gain knowledge through participation in research presentations and networking discussions.
